Let’s meet!

Hello!

Hi there! Let me share more about who I am and how I can support you. Starting therapy or any new journey of our lives can be difficult, so I am here to support you during this therapeutic process. My name is Courtney Howell, I am a LGBTQIA+, body positive, neurodivergent, and non-traditional relationship affirming therapist. I try to help teens, adults, and couples find a place where they are accepted and comfortable.

I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and received my B.A. in Psychology at the California University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Following that, I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Georgia in 2019.

Since the the journey to obtaining my clinical license in social work, I maintain a passion for learning, training, and education. I enjoy providing empathic understanding for my clients, utilizing their strengths, and combining techniques from evidence-based practices and therapeutic models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)and many more, to best match the person I am sitting with. Throughout my years of experience in social work I’ve worked in settings ranging from community-based mental health to medical facilities, crisis centers, to private practice.

My style as a therapist is a combination of empathetic, warm, attentive, non-judgmental and caring mixed with challenging, authentic, comedic, and curious. I try to show up authentically myself providing a space of balance, support, safety, and compassion in the therapy room.

Outside of the therapy room, you can find me spending time with my two dogs, (Cornelia and Kita), my friends, traveling, playing video games, roller skating, reading, or hiking.
